The Institute of Biochemistry

The Institute of Biochemistry is one of the major research hubs of the University Medical Center in Göttingen. Home to the Department of Cellular Biochemistry and the Department of Molecular Biology, the institute covers a broad range of current cell biological topics: from mitochondrial biogenesis, morphology and diseases over autophagy to the structure and function cellular gene expression machineries. The interdisciplinary research at the institute combines state-of-the-art biochemical, biophysical and structural methods, such as cryo-electron microscopy, with cell biological analyses and and animal models to unravel the molecular principles of life.
